Whitehorse Chevaliers provide a number of opportunities for Secondary School students to include the sport of Fencing in their education, and perhaps represent their school in competition.
If you are interested in any of the below, please contact secretary@whitehorsechevaliers.org.au for more information.
Winter Sport and Schools League
Each year Fencing Victoria runs a Winter Schools League Epee competition.
Starting in term 2, this usually includes 4 individual events which lead to the individual championships, and two team events and team championships. Separate events are held for boys and girls, junior (school years 7-9) and senior (years 10-12).
For all three weapons, there is also the National Intermediate (7-9) and Senior (10-12) School Championships.
At these events students represent their school, not their club. However Whitehorse Chevaliers is pleased to help many students prepare for these events.
Some schools offer fencing as a School Sport with training on campus during the winter season.
If your school does not offer Fencing as a School Sport, you are still able to enter Schools League events, and can train at fencing clubs instead.
Homeschool Fencing
For homeschool students interested in participating in fencing as their physical activity, we offer a special class for homeschool students during the winter sport period.
The session runs on Wednesday afternoons during school hours starting in term 2.
If you are a student of a local school wanting to make fencing your School Sport, you may like to talk to your teachers about joining the homeschool class for regular training, or even setting up a team training at your school.
Duke of Edinburgh Award
Whitehorse Chevaliers often hosts students from local schools who wish to learn fencing as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award. For these students we offer a special Beginner Package.
You will receive club membership and 13 weeks of classes at one of our weeknight sessions for the same cost as a normal single-session term fee. Some of that fee goes to Fencing Victoria for your state affiliation.
