Our club Sabre Development Pathway is now complete! The Epee pathway will be completed in 2026.
We use the AIS FTEM framework as a the basis for our club pathway. As the club grows and develops, the various group classes we offer are mapped against the pathway to help you select the right classes for your needs and plan where you want to go next. The club pathway covers the Foundation and Talent phases of the FTEM framework.

Whitehorse Chevaliers supports an individual and inclusive approach to sport participation. Fencers can move back and forth along the pathway as suits their current level of commitment, and customise their goals to their own interests.
Your Guide To The Club Pathways
Foundation
Foundation is about learning to fence, with at least one training session per week. Recreational fencers can chose to remain at F3 indefinitely, gradually improving their skills and enjoying the sport without competing.
F1 Discover
Acquisition of Basic Movement.
Welcome to Fencing! Let’s teach you the basics and start having some fun.
F2 Fundamentals
Extension and Refinement of Movement.
Learn to perform basic movements, introduce tactics and learn how to be a real fencer.
F3 Develop
Sport Specific Commitment and/or Competition.
Expand your knowledge and skills. Learn how to use them and how to train for improvement.
Talent
Talent is about challenge and competition, with at least two training sessions per week, increasing to at least 15 hours per week by T4.
Recreational and Socially Competitive fencers who enjoy participating in local competitions can also place themselves in T1 or T2 indefinitely, improving competition results without necessarily committing to high performance expectations. They may divert into referee, coaching or administration pathways.
T1 Grow
Demonstration of Potential
You have made fencing part of your life, now it is time to take control of your training and develop your own fencing style. Keep learning, improving, and challenging yourself.
T2 Optimise
Verification
Competition results, and how to improve them, are your main focus. You train to compete, continuing to improve and fine tune your knowledge and skills.
T3 Achieve
Practising and Achieving
You are now increasing your training load and prioritising your sport training and competition over other commitments. Your goal is improvement at a national level. Fencing is your life.
T4 Excellence
Breakthrough and Reward
Good things come to those who work hard. You’ve joined the national HPP, national podiums and international selection are your goal. Is that enough? Or will you continue to Elite…
