We have lots of activities coming up

Bring a friend day, Saturday, September 12th. If you have a friend who would like to try fencing, or whom you have been trying to talk into it, this is the day. On September 12th, you can bring a friend for a free trial session. The session will include: beginners in both junior and open sessions, beginner-friendly footwork (so you can all have a bit of a rest) at 10am, morning tea for fencers and their parents, and a group fencing game around 12.30.  The flyer can be downloaded here, or pick one up from the club: Bring A Friend Day flyer, September 2015

Competition preparation workshop, Tuesday, September 15th. Planning to enter comps in the near future?  This workshop will include drills, fencing, and some discussion on competition preparation and psychology to help you get ready. This workshop start at 8pm sharp (so there will not be a novice session that night). The cost is $15, payment due beforehand or on the night. Whilst this is timed to help prepare those going to Riverina (so far we have Tim, Connor, Oscar, Jordan and Cathi going), there are also a lot of competitions coming up in Term 4, so be prepared!  The flyer for Riverina is here: Riverina Championships 2015

School holiday workshop, in the morning on Saturday September 26th at Nunawading. This will include swordplay for ages 5-10, with parents and older siblings welcome to join in; introduction to fencing for adults and for children aged 10 plus. A flyer can be downloaded here: School holiday & swordplay flyer, August 2015

Congratulations to Phil

Congratulations to Phil for coming 4th in veterans’ epee competition on Sunday.  Great job! – and fantastic to have people out there representing the club at competitions.

Easter weekend

Remember, there is no fencing at Nunawading on Easter Saturday.  Come to Mitcham on Tuesday the 7th if you can’t last the week.

Ringwood Highland Games, Sunday, March 29th

Whitehorse Chevaliers will be doing a demonstration and ‘come and try’ session from 11am-1pm at the Ringwood Highland Games.  The Games will be held at the East Ringwood Sports Ground, at the corner of Mt Dandenong Road and Dublin Road, Ringwood East.  We will be located on the main oval, next to the Scottish Martial Arts.  Now is the time to get your friends and family involved in fencing – bring them along to watch and have a go.  We also need volunteers to do demonstration bouts and hand out information (juniors and adults), so please let us know if you can help.  Text Cathi on 0412 247 526 or email president@whitehorsechevaliers.com

February 28th Competition Preparation Session – preparation for Junior State competitions and Novice/B-Grade competitions

This session will start at 10am with a quick warm-up and footwork.  People will then be set up with pool sheets to try and fence as many pool bouts as they can on 3 strips between 10:30 and 11:45am.

Any juniors wanting to join in will have already done their warmup and footwork, so they can join in at 10:30 when their class finishes.

From 11:45-12:30, we will discuss preparing before the competition and competition psychology, then give people some bout scenarios to practise.  Lisa will be available for any specific questions that people have.

The cost will be $10 for under-15s, and $15 for adults and for teenagers aged 15+.

Coffee morning for parents of juniors, 9.15am Saturday February 7th

This coming Saturday (February 7th), we will be hosting a coffee morning for the parents of the juniors (their siblings are also welcome of course).  It will be in the meeting area at the front of the Nunawading Community Centre (just go through the double doors after dropping your child at their fencing session).  It will be at 9.15am.

We will be discussing:

– State competitions suitable for junior fencers, including the benefits of doing comps and what it’s like to participate in a competition, competition preparation (a training session is planned for the end of February), borrowing club equipment for competitions, and car pooling to make it easier to get there.

– Club activities being considered for 2015, including social activities such as Lasertag or outdoor Laser Strike, and club competitions/workshops.

– How to get involved and support the club.

We will have coffee, tea and nibbles.

Please RSVP to Jenny at vicepres@whitehorse.riposte.com.au.  Also, please let us know if you are bringing younger children (for catering quantities) and if there are any food allergies/intolerances.

We look forward to seeing everyone there.
