Ringwood Highland Games, Sunday, March 29th
Whitehorse Chevaliers will be doing a demonstration and ‘come and try’ session from 11am-1pm at the Ringwood Highland Games. The Games will be held at the East Ringwood Sports Ground, at the corner of Mt Dandenong Road and Dublin Road, Ringwood East. We will be located on the main oval, next to the Scottish Martial Arts. Now is the time to get your friends and family involved in fencing – bring them along to watch and have a go. We also need volunteers to do demonstration bouts and hand out information (juniors and adults), so please let us know if you can help. February 28th Competition Preparation Session – preparation for Junior State competitions and Novice/B-Grade competitions
This session will start at 10am with a quick warm-up and footwork. People will then be set up with pool sheets to try and fence as many pool bouts as they can on 3 strips between 10:30 and 11:45am.
Any juniors wanting to join in will have already done their warmup and footwork, so they can join in at 10:30 when their class finishes.
From 11:45-12:30, we will discuss preparing before the competition and competition psychology, then give people some bout scenarios to practise. Lisa will be available for any specific questions that people have.
The cost will be $10 for under-15s, and $15 for adults and for teenagers aged 15+.
Coffee morning for parents of juniors, 9.15am Saturday February 7th
This coming Saturday (February 7th), we will be hosting a coffee morning for the parents of the juniors (their siblings are also welcome of course). It will be in the meeting area at the front of the Nunawading Community Centre (just go through the double doors after dropping your child at their fencing session). It will be at 9.15am.
We will be discussing:
– State competitions suitable for junior fencers, including the benefits of doing comps and what it’s like to participate in a competition, competition preparation (a training session is planned for the end of February), borrowing club equipment for competitions, and car pooling to make it easier to get there.
– Club activities being considered for 2015, including social activities such as Lasertag or outdoor Laser Strike, and club competitions/workshops.
– How to get involved and support the club.
We will have coffee, tea and nibbles.
Please RSVP to Jenny at vicepres@whitehorse.riposte.com.au. Also, please let us know if you are bringing younger children (for catering quantities) and if there are any food allergies/intolerances.
We look forward to seeing everyone there.

Tactical Skills Workshop
Saturday 17th of January.
9am-12pm, with an hour of free-bouting and Q&A time afterward.
$30 for club members, $45 for non-members.
This workshop will provide an introduction to tactics and strategy, how to think tactically about your fencing game, tips on how to build it into your training, and a little bout psychology thrown in. Lots of hands-on practice exercises to put the theory to the test for all three weapons. Get ready to take your fencing to the next level in 2015!
E-mail coach@whitehorsechevaliers.com for more info or to RSVP.
Welcome Back!
Hey look, it’s 2015 and nearly time to start fencing again!
Returning Members: Don’t forget you will need to pay your membership and Fencing Victoria affiliation at or before the first fencing session!
You can pay by cash or cheque on Saturday 10th or Tuesday 13th, but if you want to do a bank transfer (and we love it when you do), make sure you do it this week. E-mail the treasurer if you need account details.
This is probably also a good time to talk to Lisa if you want a development plan for 2015.
Junior Classes: These don’t start until Jan 31st, so if you’re only attending classes then you get a bit more relaxation time.
New Members: Not sure where to start or even if this is the sport for you? Come along to our first session on the 10th and have a chat! It will be a relatively quiet and relaxed session so an ideal time to find out what is involved, and maybe even have a go. Bring $20 if you’d like to have a quick intro lesson and test your skills with the club equipment. Beginner group classes start at the end of January.
